The publication of CNBio Resolution No. 8, on March 5, 2026, marks an important step in organizing the governance of the bioeconomy in the country.
Issued within the scope of the National Bioeconomy Commission (CNBio), the regulation establishes guidelines and structuring elements for the National Bioeconomy Development Plan (PNDBio), in addition to defining rules for operation, institutional articulation, and monitoring of actions related to the topic.
Subsequently, on April 1, 2026, the Federal Government launched the National Bioeconomy Development Plan (PNDBio), consolidating the sector’s strategic planning for the medium and long term. The Plan foresees 21 goals and 185 strategic actions aimed at promoting the sustainable use of biodiversity as a vector for economic, social, and environmental development.
The PNDBio was built in a participatory manner, with the collaboration of government agencies, the productive sector, academia, and civil society. The initiative seeks to strengthen production chains based on biological resources, focusing on technological innovation, adding value to biodiversity, and the productive inclusion of indigenous peoples, traditional communities, and family farmers.
Among the main areas of action of the Plan are the encouragement of the bioindustry, the development of innovative solutions, the valorization of biodiversity, and the strengthening of the socio-bioeconomy, in articulation with public policies for innovation, industry, and conservation.
Together, CNBio Resolution No. 8/2026 and the PNDBio reinforce the advancement of the national bioeconomy policy, by integrating governance and planning instruments and positioning the sector as strategic for the sustainable development of Brazil.
