Partners João Emmanuel Cordeiro Lima and Bianca Oliveira Begossi attended the World Environment Week 2026 announcement ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília (DF).
The event brought together authorities, experts, and representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss strategic issues related to biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development, and environmental governance.
Among the announcements made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, noteworthy measures include those aimed at the recovery of the Caatinga biome, new investments in ecological restoration and environmental conservation, strengthening the Amazon Fund, expanding protected areas, and improving the management of natural resources. The Alliance of National Public Institutions for Scientific and Technological Research in Biodiversity (APBio) was also created, a mechanism designed to support foreign institutions in registering research and development activities carried out abroad involving Brazilian biodiversity.
Another important highlight was the signing of the Decree regulating the National Policy on Payment for Environmental Services (PES), established by Law No. 14,119/2021. The regulation defines governance aspects, guidelines for contracting, monitoring, funding sources, and socio-environmental safeguards, in alignment with the National Bioeconomy Development Plan (PNDBio).
We continue to monitor the regulatory developments of these initiatives and their potential impacts on various economic sectors.
