INPI – Revision of the Industrial Property Law (LPI) – Public Consultation about to be launched.

The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) announced on March 4, 2026, the start of an institutional campaign marking the preparation for the future public consultation on the revision of the Industrial Property Law, which celebrates 30 years of validity this year.
The initiative reflects the need to update the legal framework in light of transformations in the innovation, technology, and business environment, and represents a significant step towards improving the industrial property system in Brazil. What is already known INPI reported that:
• An internal Working Group was responsible for identifying and consolidating the main themes for the revision of the Industrial Property Law;
• This survey considered internal contributions and technical analyses carried out throughout 2024 and 2025;
• The consolidated document with the themes will be made available to the public by the end of March 2026;
• The public consultation should be opened subsequently, allowing for public participation.
Current Status To date, the public consultation has not yet been formally opened, and there is no official notice or channel available for submitting contributions. Strategic Opportunity for Companies The upcoming Public Consultation represents an excellent opportunity for companies, associations, and agents of the innovation ecosystem to actively contribute to the improvement of legislation. Topics related to the protection of intangible assets, the efficiency of the patent system, biotechnology, among others, may be subject to review—making close monitoring and prior preparation of technical contributions essential. Next Steps We will continue to monitor official communications from INPI and will inform you when the participation channel is opened. This newsletter is exclusively institutional and informative and presents general normative and administrative aspects related to the topic.
