Yellow September reinforces the need for mental health care.

The month of September is marked by one of the main public health campaigns: suicide prevention. Since 2014, the Brazilian Psychiatric Association, in partnership with the Federal Council of Medicine, has highlighted the need for mental health care, promoting widespread publicity on the topic and disseminating relevant information on emotional well-being.

And it’s no wonder. According to the WHO, more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year, and more than 1 billion people worldwide live with some mental disorder, such as depression or anxiety. Furthermore, according to research conducted by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics, an adolescent attempts suicide or self-harm every 10 minutes.

The ninth month of the year, therefore, can represent a silent cry for attention and understanding. It’s an invitation to look at others with sensitivity and empathy. Corporate, family, and social environments often lack a courteous and welcoming approach, which worsens the situation of people in a state of emotional and psychological vulnerability.

In Brazil, CVV (Center for the Valorization of Life) voluntarily provides emotional support and suicide prevention services, every day, 24 hours a day. Calls are free and confidential, at 188. You can also contact us by email or chat (https://cvv.org.br/fale-conosco/).

Raising awareness is essential. Mental health is as important as physical health.

Talking is liberating, and listening is an act of love.
